In the Field
John Segoria and Dakota
We're seeing some great work from John and his very versatile yellow lab, Dakota. Retrieving ducks, napping in the blind, making blind retrieves on bandtails...that's what this is all about!
Biff and Sasha, Corey and Robbie
Corey Majors and I went down to Mexicali for a pheasant hunt. We took 6 roosters, which was pretty good for a mid season Baja hunt. Sonora should open soon and I am looking forward to it. Hunted with Sasha and Corey's Robbie. Sasha is coming along well as she hunted close and got several flushes. We started out in an old fallow milo field. Cory pushed and I blocked. We got 3 roosters up and 3 went down. Robbie and Sasha did their jobs and retrieved the birds. Great way to start the day. Hunted various Alfalfa fields and ditches. Corey picked up another rooster on a ditch push. We got up several more roosters, but they just were not cooperating. Either out
of range or a safety issue. It was getting late and almost time to head back to camp when we saw 3 roosters fly into a cotton field. Cory and I went to the other side and blocked while Gilbert, our guide, pushed from the side where we saw them enter. They flushed and came out about 5 roosters and 20 hens. I doubled on roosters . Great way to end the day. Here are some pics:
