News and Notes

Board of Directors for 2016

I would like to thank those members who stepped up and made a commitment to keep the club running this next year! I will be returning as President. Joel Vexler, a new board member, will be 1st Vice President. Pam Felgenhauer, Randy Domingos, and Joe Artes will be reprising their roles as 2nd Vice President, Secretary, and Board Member, respectively. We thank Ed Marr, Mary Sarmiento, and Kenn and Colleen Scruggs for continuing this year in their positions, respectively, of Board Members and Treasurer.

We will also need everybody's help this year, especially with the coordination of events such as The Classic, training days, Snake Break Clinic, etc. We don't want to burn the board members out by asking them to do all the work, so when the call goes out for volunteers, please do!

The Board of Directors and General Meeting Reports

It was suggested that in this section of the newsletter we include a description of what was discussed in the meetings. I think this is a great idea, so in addition to links to the full minutes, we will also give a summary of the contents.

At October's meeting, we discussed:
  • Fixing up the new trailer
  • Gun safe raffle
  • Calendar of events
  • A donation to charity in memory of Don Wilke
  • Training day (Pheasant Tune-up)
  • Board of Directors elections
For November:
  • Selling the old trailer
  • Gun safe raffle
  • Calender of events
  • Shoot to Retrieve, and issues surrounding the legality of using the Honey Springs training area, steel shot, etc.
  • Possibility of putting on a pointer puppy seminar with Ronnie Smith, or similar
  • Board of Directors election slate

Click here to view the full minutes of the October meeting, and here for the November meeting.

In the Field

Pheasant Tune-up

We had a great day in the valley November 8th getting the dogs ready for pheasant season.  Attending were Pat and Eric Harris, Joel and Cathy Vexler, Ed Marr, Henry Silva and Consuelo Lemus, Randy Domingos, Brett Delong and family, and Verland Nolta.  All the dogs were very sharp and we got a lot of good work done.  Henry Silva’s GSP Jack showed quite a bit of improvement since we saw him at the Shoot to Retrieve last spring.  Our pheasant this year fly fantastic and are big and strong.  They will be great for our upcoming events.

On behalf of the club, thanks go out to Joel Vexler for organizing the day and barbequing lunch, to Randy for bringing down the birds, and to Pat Harris and Baja Farms for allowing us to use their awesome alfalfa field.

Opening Day of Pheasant Season in California
Ed Marr and Randy Domingos went to Picacho State Recreation Area and hunted quail for the pheasant opener.  We pretty much had the run of the place.  Abby, Bree and Wyatt did great and we found lots of birds, bringing five home.  It was an awesome day to be hunting in the desert.
